Benjamin Pavard Chelsea transfer stance revealed amid 'amazing' Eden Hazard admission

Chelsea hold an interest in signing Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard this summer as Thomas Tuchel continues his search for new players. A source has told that Pavard has been included on the shortlist for defensive targets at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues hold a strong interest in Leicester City's Wesley Fofana and have also held talks with Paris Saint-Germain for Presnel Kimpembe. Pavard, though, is also on the list as he enters the final two years remaining on his contract with Bayern Munich.

Pavard was asked about his future with the German champions earlier in the summer but the defender was reluctant to speculate on what's next. He said:

"I still have a two-year contract and I am very happy here. But you never know what will happen in football. At the moment, I am focused on the national team."

Pavard can play as a centre-back, as well as right- back or left-back. His versatility appears to appeal to Tuchel, who still needs cover for the right and left wing-back positions, especially if Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso move on this summer.

According to BILD reporter Christian Falk, Pavard would be willing to move to Chelsea this summer. However, the Blues would need to make a 'serious offer' to Bayern for a move to materialise. Pavard has been at the Allianz Arena since moving from VfB Stuttgart in the summer of 2019 for around £31.5million.

The France defender featured just 25 times for Bayern in their title- winning Bundesliga campaign last time around. He is considering his future, with numerous parties said to be interested in his services.

The defender has come up against some world- class opponents over the years during his time at Bayern and while on international duty with France. Eden Hazard, though, who is of course formerly of Chelsea, stands out as his toughest opponent.

Pavard was asked about the best player he had ever faced back in 2018 – when Hazard was still at Chelsea – and the versatile defender was swift with his answer. Speaking to French news outlet L'Equipe, Pavard said:

"Eden Hazard is the best player I've ever played against. He is amazing. I do not know if people realise, he has a crazy talent. A sick thing."

Meanwhile, Chelsea have held talks with Leicester over Fofana this week. understands talks were opened on Wednesday between the Blues and the 21-year-old's entourage.

Personal terms are not expected to be a problem, but Leicester do not want to sell Fofana. The Frenchman committed his future at the King Power Stadium in March by signing an extension on his contract. His deal now runs until 2027, meaning the Foxes are in a very strong bargaining position.
