“Show quality” – Thomas Tuchel hits back at recent Timo Werner comments

Chelsea played their second pre-season of the campaign over night against Charlotte in Florida. The game finished in a 1-1 draw and Chelsea lost on penalties. Why they insist on penalties in these pre-season games is beyond me.

Anyway, Chelsea were not great and suffered the usual issues in attack not creating or finishing enough chances. There was no Timo Werner in the squad this time due to an apparent hamstring injury according to boss Thomas Tuchel.

However, there was some comments from Werner earlier in the week that seemingly hasn’t sat too well with Tuchel, judging by his reaction in the post-match press conference over night at least.

Werner mentioned that he might not be completely happy at Chelsea due to not being a nailed on starter, and that he could be happy elsewhere.

Tuchel, in the usual Tuchel style, snapped back to these comments when asked about them, as reported by Football London .

“I’m surprised,” Tuchel said when asked if he saw those comments and what he though. “I would be very happy as a young guy having a contract at Chelsea Football Club. I would be one of the happiest people on the planet.”

“So he needs to get his game time,” Tuchel then replied when told Werner was concerned about lack of game time. Show quality, take your place and defend your place. I would be one of the happiest people on the planet having a contract with Chelsea. If he said this, I do not understand.”
