"What a signing" - Chelsea fans rave after standout Marc Cucurella and Raheem Sterling debuts

Chelsea fans were treated to four debuts as they edged past Everton at Goodison Park. Thomas Tuchel was able to rely on over £150m worth of new talent on the pitch as Kalidou Koulibaly, Raheem Sterling, Marc Cucurella and Conor Gallagher all made their first competitive appearances for the club.

Tuchel has been able to add five players to his squad with four of them available for the first game of the season and those that were included all impressed for the Blues.

Other than 18-year-old Carney Chukwuemeka, who didn't make the matchday squad despite nine first team players being left out, there was a first sight of the statement buys for Todd Boehly so far this summer.

Both Sterling and Koulibaly started the game, the winger played 90 minutes and the Senegalese defender went off midway through the first half with cramp, Cucurella was used as a substitute to give rest to Ben Chilwell and Gallagher was offered his first minutes in stoppage time.

With the shoes of Antonio Rudiger to fill and the challenge of goalscoring coming directly from Tuchel, there was plenty to look out for fans and they weren't disappointed in the new players that they witnessed.

Sterling provided his own individual dribbling skills, speed and flair to energise the attack in the first half, though Chelsea's less risk-taking second 45 meant his impact died down.

Koulibaly jelled well to create a good early relationship with Thiago Silva and Cucurella entered proceedings with just one day of training and slotted in well despite his side dropping deeper and the pressure being on. Here's how Twitter reacted to the new look Blues:

@MaccaSport: HT thought. Raheem Sterling, what a signing. Oh, and what a signing Koulibaly was.

@CFCDaily Positives: We’re somehow winning, Koulibaly, Sterling.

@eli_helenek: Sterling was the standout player for me in that half. Feel like we need more in attack though..what changes would you make at half time?

@SonOfChelsea: Sterling & Koulibaly looking very good.

@HKSaratov: Regardless of how the match ends, you can already see how Raheem Sterling is going to have a huge positive impact for Chelsea going forward

@Carefree_Jam: Chelsea are cooking with Cucurella

@SwannyHypno: There's a reason Brighton were adamant about how much they wanted he's [Cucurella] class

@FutbolCheIsea: Think it’s safe to say nobody cares how much Chelsea paid for Cucurella anymore. What an debut…

@matissearmani: “Boring boring Chelsea!” I promise you we don’t care, it’s the first game of the season, get your points and go home. Keep those transfers coming, Sliva, Koulibaly immense & Cucurella off the bench, cold.
