Jorginho Chelsea contract fate as Todd Boehly makes N'Golo Kante transfer decision

Jorginho is expected to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of his contract next summer according to The Athletic . The Italian midfielder has recently faced questions surrounding his future in west London as contract negotiations do not appear to be advanced over any new deal.

“Of course I do, I love Chelsea." The 31-year-old told TalkSport earlier this week. “But this is a thing I’m not going to think about now. I need to think about winning games. Otherwise, it’s a problem. “I’ll focus game by game and then we’ll see what’s going to happen. But my mind is on Chelsea now and trying to win as many games as possible.”

Jorginho is likely to feature this coming Tuesday when the Blues return to Premier League action against Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge, but his midfield peer N'Golo Kante remains sidelined until at least March. As confirmed by Graham Potter in Friday's press conference, Kante's absence due to a hamstring injury suffered back in August continues to dominate his campaign.

After surgery, Kante is unlikely to feature heavily this season should a forecasted return in March be correct, and like Jorginho, Kante's contract situation is also precarious. The French international could also walk for nothing next summer with the most recent reports of any negotiations coming back in September, with Todd Boehly offering Kante a shorter deal than the previous ownership.

Kante's ongoing injury issues that stretch back to the summer of 2019 highlight the real risk of committing money to Kante for the long term given his age and increasing time on the sidelines. Despite proving to be one of the club's greatest-ever signings, Kante might be coming to the end of his time at Chelsea in 2023. Jorginho's time in west London might also come to its end in the next six months with chatter over signing a new midfielder only getting louder before the January transfer window.
