'Hugely talented': Brendan Rodgers hails£200k-a- week Chelsea star who impressed him vs Dortmund

Brendan Rodgers has given special praise to Wesley Fofana ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Leicester City this afternoon. Leicester manager Rodgers, 50, did work alongside Fofana at the King Power Stadium before he left to join Chelsea last summer.

The 22-year-old has endured a challenging start to his Chelsea career due to injuries. However, the French defender is fit again and is now getting some appearances under his belt. He was part of the Graham Potter side that beat Borussia Dortmund in midweek to reach the Champions League quarter-finals. The young centre-back is really standing out for the Blues on the right-hand side of a back three.

Wesley Fofana praise

Rodgers, who watched Fofana’s performance against Dortmund, is extremely complimentary of his former player. He’s actually tipping the £200,000-a-week centre-half to be huge for Chelsea moving forward.

“He’s a hugely talented player and he’s a really good young guy. I look forward to seeing him,” Rodgers said, as quoted by The Independent. “I watched him the other night playing against Dortmund and you could see him getting back to his level. He was obviously injured in the early part of the season. He’ll be a brilliant player for Chelsea and I look forward to seeing him.”

Chelsea fans are beginning to see why Fofana was a £70million investment last summer. He possesses everything you want in a modern defender, with fantastic athleticism and quality on the ball. The young talent is yet another Blues player who suits the change of system to a back three where he can enjoy 1v1 defending in the right-hand channel.

We expect he’ll get a pretty poor reception this weekend from Leicester supporters, so it’ll be interesting to see how he deals with this kind of pressure. Keep up to date with all the latest Chelsea news and opinion by following The Chelsea Chronicle’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.
